Testimonial Tuesday: Flobots’ Jonny 5 keeps it simple

November 23rd

We had the chance recently to chat with visionary hip-hop artist Jonny 5, lead singer and founder of the Flobots. When we told him how hard it is to convince artists that we’re for real, he passed along this sage advice – keeping it simple and profound, as usual:

“Usually, when someone says they have money for you, it is a lie. When SoundExchange says this, it is the truth. Seriously, you should register.”

Thanks for the shout out, Jonny 5!  And he’s well known as one of the smartest guys in hip-hop, so like the man says, “seriously, you should register.”

Most Wanted Monday: International Songwriting Competition artists notified of SX royalties

November 22nd

SoundExchange frequently does matching exercises with partner organizations, by which we match our list of artists owed royalties to a partner’s list of artist contact information. You may have received one or more emails from our partner organizations informing you of money waiting for you at SoundExchange. Do not ignore these emails – they are a golden ticket to digital performance royalties!

Testimonial Tuesday: Multi-Grammy Winner “Common” Stops By SoundExchange

November 16th

Multi-Grammy winning hip-hop artist/actor “Common” stopped by SoundExchange’s offices today, to let us know he appreciates that we’re helping artists connect to their digital royalties. When our staff congregated to hear him do a few verses, here’s what he had to say:

“I’ve learned so much about the industry just from talking to Sean [Manager of artist relations at SoundExchange]. SoundExchange said, ‘Hey, this is out here for artists and you’re missing out on it.’ I’m just so grateful that there are people like you watching out for us. And keep on watching out for us, cause artists got bills to pay!

We all need to make sure that all artists know about SoundExchange. A lot of artists aren’t even aware, but artists all need to take care of their business.”

Check out a couple of photos of Common’s visit, including signing our “You Got Paid!” board, and checking out video of his rhyme session with SoundExchange VP Bryan Calhoun:
