Sharon Brown, the voice behind the 1982 club smash “I Specialize in Love” dropped us a note via Facebook recently.  Ms. Brown delivered cross-over R&B/dance hits in the early 1980s, but because she wasn’t the songwriter, never saw proceeds from the skyrocketing sales and nightclub plays which pushed her up the Billboard club charts.

En Mass: Most Wanted Choirs

While they’re raising their voices to heaven, their royalty accounts are also headed skyward. These choirs have been reported to us by services who use gospel music or rebroadcast church services, and there are some hefty sums waiting for these lofty souls. Whether it’s for new robes, an organ, or for charity, we’re sure these choirs would like to put their royalty money to good use. Can you help us register them?

Wait Eternal: Metal band gets paid after long delays

I was almost scared to open an email with the subject line “Hate Eternal.” But it wasn’t someone whose parking spot I’d stolen, it was Erik Rutan of death metal band Hate Eternal dropping us a line to say thanks for his royalty check.  

Most Wanted Monday: Accounts on Hold

Our primary project at SoundExchange is getting artists and labels signed up with us so that they can get paid their digital performance royalties. Unfortunately, that’s not always the end of the search. There’s another group at SoundExchange called “accounts on hold” – those who were once getting paid by SoundExchange, but for some reason, now can’t be paid. 

SoundExchange congratulates Grammy Nominees

It’s that time again – The Grammy Foundation has released its list of nominees for February’s star-studded award show. Congratulations to all our members who were nominated! But an artist’s status as an industry darling doesn’t guarantee they’re in the know about SoundExchange. Closer to the date, SoundExchange will be releasing a list of nominated artists who haven’t yet claimed their SoundExchange royalties.
