2016 BBMAs: Here’s Why We Plan to Watch the Billboard Music Awards

The 2016 Billboard Music Awards will air live Sunday, May 22 at 8 p.m., recognizing recording artists who led the music industry in 43 categories, including sales, streams and airplay.

We’re curious to see who wins… and what everyone is wearing!

But we’re excited about this year’s BBMAs because of the many live performances that are scheduled.

P!nk will sing “Just Like Fire.” It will be P!nk’s first live television performance of the new single, her first in three years. Speaking of firsts, Fifth Harmony will perform its hit single “Work From Home” with Ty Dolla $ign, marking the group’s first performance at the Billboard Music Awards. “Work From Home” earned Fifth Harmony its first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

In recent days, BBMA organizers also announced that Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Meghan Trainor will perform.

Madonna will pay homage to Prince during the awards show. Details are “a closely guarded secret,” according to Billboard, but Madonna’s tribute could be a medley of songs by the late recording artist.

Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Nick Jonas, Tove Lo, Demi Lovato, Celine Dion, DNCE, Shawn Mendes and The Go-Go’s also are scheduled to perform during the BBMAs.

Speaking of the awards, lots of SoundExchange members are in the running for a BBMA.

It looks like The Weeknd will have a good day at the BBMAs. The Weeknd is a finalist for 19 BBMAs in 16 categories, more than any other recording artist. He may not be able to feel his face after the BBMAs because he’ll have too many awards in his hands. In fact, The Weeknd has three singles – “Can’t Feel My Face,” “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)” and “The Hills” – in the running for Top R&B Song.

Bieber is a finalist for 12 awards in 11 categories. We’re pretty sure Biebs won’t be “Sorry” he attended the 2016 BBMAs. Drake and Fetty Wap are finalists for 11 BBMAs in 10 categories. Taylor Swift and Adele are finalists for eight BBMAs. Taylor Swift has won more BBMAs than any other artist, racking up 20 awards in all. She earned her first BBMA in 2011.
