SoundExchange last week awarded Pitbull our prestigious Digital Radio Award, which recognizes artists who have amassed more than one billion performances on the more than 2,500 digital radio services with which we partner.
SoundExchange President and CEO Michael Huppe presented Pitbull with the award on August 4, prior to his show at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
“Pitbull’s universal appeal and ability to comfortably and capably cross into numerous musical genres are the reasons his fans have streamed his songs more than four billion times,” Huppe said.
Pitbull, the first Latin artist to receive the honor, has cultivated an enthusiastic global fan base that has embraced every release since his 2004 debut, M.I.A.M.I.
In addition to his popularity on digital music services, Pitbull has sold more than 70 million songs, according to a profile published in Vanity Fair. Pitbull also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 15, 2016.
Only recording artists who are registered members of SoundExchange are eligible to receive the Digital Radio Award. Garth Brooks received the award in earlier in 2016.
