Hamilton: An American Musical has made its mark with millions of fans who appreciate Lin-Manuel Miranda’s hip-hop interpretation of American history.
It also resonated with J.PERIOD, an award-winning producer, DJ and self-proclaimed musical storyteller. So with Miranda’s blessing, J.PERIOD worked with recording artists to re-imagine the songs in the musical for a new, hip-hop release. The result was The Hamilton Mixtape, a wildly successful release in 2016 that debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
We were ecstatic when J.PERIOD stopped by SoundExchange to talk with us about hip-hop, collaborations, his favorite mixtapes and, of course, The Hamilton Mixtape. Hey, we’re big fans of the musical, too.
