Did you see the news?
Our latest Digital Radio Report shows that we paid $398.6 million in sound recording performance royalties in the first six months of 2018. That was a big jump compared to the first half of 2017, when we distributed $339.5 million in royalties.
The Digital Radio Report included another important number – 9.3 percent. The number of music creators we paid increased from 25,681 in the second quarter a year ago to 28,065 in the second quarter of 2018 – a 9.3 percent increase.
To review, that’s more money to more music creators.
You Have to Register (Tell Your Friends)
But we can only distribute royalties to those who register with SoundExchange. Registration is easier than ever, and you can do it online.
Did you know you can take it a step further? You can also sign up to become a member of SoundExchange and earn lots of benefits. When you become a member, SoundExchange will collect your royalties domestically and worldwide because we have international partnerships in place that allow us to collect and pay artists and rights owners performance royalties when their music is played outside the U.S.
Here is a list of the benefits of membership.
So how do you become a member? At the end of your registration you will see our membership section. All you have to do is check a box and sign the form to become a member.
When Do I Get Paid?
Since we’re talking about royalties…
At SoundExchange, we get phone calls and e-mails every day from recording artists and rights owners asking for assistance on a range of issues. One of the most common questions is: When am I getting paid?
We distribute royalties at the end of each month to those who are paid via direct deposit and have an account balance of at least $100. We also pay quarterly (in March, June, September and December) to anyone whose account is set up to receive direct deposit who has accrued at least $10, or to anyone whose account is set up to receive a paper check who has accrued at least $100.
If you are registered and haven’t yet reached the threshold to receive a payment, stay tuned because we will pay you once you reach that level. And remember, you must register before we can distribute your royalties. Use our online registration tool.
If you’d like to speak to a member of our Customer Service team specifically about your account, about registration or about membership, they are happy to help. You can reach us by phone at (800) 961-2091 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org Monday through Friday from 9 am-6 pm ET.
We’re here to take care of the business side of things so you can focus on what you do best – creating the music we all love.
