HR Manager, Talent Acquisition and HRIS


SoundExchange collects and distributes digital performance royalties on behalf of more than 260,000 creators and to date has paid nearly $9 billion in distributions. Through innovation in music tech products and services, it distributes royalties to creator groups, advocates for fair pay across platforms, and creates systems that improve how the industry operates. SoundExchange is looking to bring on an experienced Manager to our Human Resources team! In this role, you will be primarily responsible for developing and implementing overarching recruitment strategies and administration, as well as management and administration of our HR Information Systems (HRIS), including payroll and data reporting. In addition, you will be a generalist who enjoys working on a team able to pitch in on various other HR projects and tasks as needed. You will also be expected to cross-train with our current HR Manager to serve as a back-up to other HR functional areas as needed. You will work closely with the head of Human Resources in understanding the talent acquisition needs of the organization, developing comprehensive sourcing strategies to hire top talent, and monitoring and reporting on the status of the company’s talent acquisition efforts. The successful candidate will be an individual who is driven by the mission of SoundExchange to serve the music and entertainment industry, is able and willing to take ongoing ownership of the talent acquisition and HRIS functions for the HR team, and is willing and capable of doing the hands-on work that comes with the role. This role will be based in Washington, DC.


  • Management and administration of SoundExchange’s full life cycle recruiting and talent acquisition process and programs, to include sourcing, interviewing, partnering with hiring managers, presenting offers and closing candidates, and reporting to leadership on recruitment and applicant data
  • Partner directly with hiring managers to understand key success differentiators needed for each open position, and guide managers subsequently through the process
  • Conduct all job posting and upfront sourcing efforts for SoundExchange open positions as appropriate; constantly evaluate sourcing strategies and ensuring that sourcing supports our company’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts.
  • Participate in employer recruiting branding activities as appropriate
  • Implement and oversee an applicant tracking process and data reporting
  • Share insights and recommendations to HR leadership on market trends or feedback that affect hiring tactics
  • Oversee all HR Information System duties, including input and data management of all personnel data, regular data reporting duties, payroll management, new hire and termination updates, etc.
  • Responsible for general compliance oversight re federal regulations, and applicable state laws where SoundExchange does or seeks to have employees; monitors legal landscape for issues needing to be raised to HR and/or organizational leadership
  • Partners with SoundExchange Finance team to provide payroll and other data reports as needed
  • Conducts all employee references and background checks
  • Cross-trains with HR Manager to serve as back-up as needed to HR Manager; in-turn trains HR Manager on recruitment and talent acquisition processes to enable full team to be fully cross trained
  • Provide support to HR Manager and HR leadership as needed on other ad-hoc projects
  • Provide excellent customer service to our employees when dealing with questions
  • Maintains utmost trust and confidentiality when dealing with sensitive matters


  • 10+ years of experience in full life cycle recruiting
  • In-depth knowledge of full-cycle recruiting and employer branding techniques
  • Hands on experience with and knowledge of recruiting job boards
  • Experience with applicant tracking tools
  • HRIS and Payroll experience strongly preferred (current tool us UKG, formerly Ultimate Software)
  • Experience specifically with implementing and dealing with DEI strategies and employee matters in prior HR roles prefer
  • Specific experience developing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) recruitment strategies that translate into successful efforts to hire diverse talent at all levels of an organization
