Dead Oceans/ Jagjaguwar/ Secretly Canadian and Fort Williams Artist Management

Darius Van Arman founded the independent label Jagjaguwar in 1996 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Van Arman relocated the label to Bloomington, Indiana in 1999, to join forces with independent label Secretly Canadian and its distribution arm SC Distribution (now a separate company). Van Arman and his partners then founded a third label, Dead Oceans, in 2007. All three labels are now part of Secretly Label Group, headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana and with offices in New York City, London and Austin, Texas.

Two special highlights for the label group include Jagjaguwar recording‐artist Bon Iver winning two Grammy Awards in 2012 (for Best New Artist and for Best Alternative Album) and Secretly Canadian recording‐artist Antony & the Johnsons winning the highly‐coveted Mercury Music Prize in 2005 for the album “I Am A Bird Now”. In 2010, Van Arman co‐founded Fort William Artist Management (Grizzly Bear, Foxygen, Beirut, Van Dyke Parks, et al.) with Ami Spishock, Ben Swanson and Chris Swanson. Van Arman currently serves on the board of A2IM, the Association of Independent Music, the pre‐eminent trade organization representing independent record labels in the United States. Van Arman is also a founding WIN Council member; WIN is the Worldwide Independent Network, a collective voice for independent music companies and their national trade organizations worldwide.
