Anthony Hamilton Visits SoundExchange

Grammy Award winner, Anthony Hamilton, stopped by the SoundExchange offices yesterday to discuss his fourth studio album, Back to Love and his two sold-out performances at The Howard Theater.
Hamilton won his first Grammy back in 2010 for Best Traditional R & B Vocal Performance on “You Got the Love I Need” with Al Green.

In 2013 he was nominated for Best R & B song and Best R & B Album. Although he didn’t win either category, Hamilton said he is pressing forward.

“I don’t look at it as disappointment. I had a nice run. I will come back and do it again next year. I don’t have time to be depressed. I have work to do,” said Hamilton.

Hamilton said he is no stranger to perseverance and refers to himself as, “that guy that had 13 record deals before I got where I am today.”

He’s been on the scene since the early 2000s but boasts that he’s always known he was meant to be famous from singing. “Love and passion can surpass any blocks…if it’s something you want to do, stick with it,” offered Hamilton, as advice to get through the hard times.

In addition to his numerous record deals, Anthony has had other life challenges he’s chronicled in his music that have led him to success. In the midst of the silver lining he’s managed to stay humble and true to his Southern roots. He describes his Southern upbringing as a reminder that, “you gotta slow things down and appreciate things.”

“Changing lives and inspiring people,” is how he wants his legacy to be remembered. Above all his goal is “to do better, to be a good man that can sing, to be a great father, husband and family man.”
