Tracy’s Kids Red Carpet Event supports the charitable organization’s program that helps young cancer patients cope with the emotional stress and trauma caused by cancer and its treatment. Tracy’s Kids – which began at the Lombardi Cancer Center in 1991 and is based on the model developed there – is run by a team of Master’s-trained, Board Certified art therapists who address the multi-faceted needs of children with cancer through art therapy. The program is also offered at Children’s National Medical Center in D.C. and Fairfax, and Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio. Ask one of the children who has experienced Tracy’s Kids during the last 24 years and they will tell you that the program has been an invaluable part of their treatment. So will their parents, siblings and physicians.
Tracy’s Kids will be recognizing Congressman Tom Marino with their 2015 Courage Award on February 11, 2015 at their tenth annual “…And the Winner Is…” Tom has battled kidney cancer for over a decade — including having a kidney removed in 2012. He also has a special appreciation for their mission because his daughter has spent a great deal of time in hospitals in connection with her Cystic Fibrosis. He is deeply committed to raising awareness of the path traveled by American families that confront serious pediatric illnesses.
