May 5, 2025 – The fight for fair compensation for music creators hit the ground running in 2025, with renewed momentum behind the American Music Fairness Act (AMFA). Reintroduced in the new Congress earlier this year, AMFA marks a historic opportunity to finally close a century-old loophole that has long denied performing artists royalties when their music is played on AM/FM radio.
Building on a strong foundation, support for AMFA has never been stronger. To kick off the year, we ramped up our advocacy in a big way—starting with an unforgettable moment on World Music Day.
In January, legendary R&B group Boyz II Men visited Capitol Hill, delivering a powerful letter to Congress signed by more than 300 iconic artists (click here to read the letter). Their message was clear: it’s time for performers to be fairly paid when their work is broadcast. The impact was immediate and widespread, with their visit making headlines and sparking national conversation about the need for legislative action.

Their advocacy didn’t stop there. Boyz II Men’s exclusive interview on NBC’s Today show, along with coverage in other major media outlets, brought the issue front and center to millions of Americans. With support from a growing and diverse coalition of artists, the push for AMFA is becoming impossible to ignore.
We’re just getting started. Our outreach and grassroots efforts will only intensify throughout the year, and we’ll continue empowering artists and advocates to speak out and be heard. Your involvement fuels our mission and moments like these prove just how powerful our collective voice can be.
Stay tuned. Stay involved. The fight for fairness is far from over.
