Title: Senior Software Engineer, Python

Position Summary:

Data processing is an essential pillar that supports SoundExchange’s mission to fairly compensate artists for their work. This Senior Software Engineer role will be a champion of ensuring the quality, speed, and availability of critical data to our Operations teams. To accomplish their mission, they will need to have a deep understanding of data topologies and the business processes that depend on them. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and be able to quickly adapt to rapidly changing priorities while wearing multiple hats.

Essential Functions:

  • Contribute to ETL workflows, application code, infrastructure, and everything else required to support our data centric workflows.
  • Profile and analyze data sets at every stage of the pipeline.
  • Design and build data models for optimal storage and retrieval and to meet critical product and business requirements.
  • Apply software engineering principles to create reliable, automated data solutions to solve critical business needs.
  • Work with other engineering teams on both stakeholder-driven projects as well as engineering-driven, platform projects.
  • Demonstrate responsibility, accountability, and dedication to engineering team success.
  • Establish and promote use of technologies and processes that improve data quality and increase operational efficiency.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSAs):

  • Must have wide ranging experience on multiple projects covering a multitude of technologies at different levels.
  • Must demonstrate above average abilities in some of these areas:
    o    Deep understanding of SQL.
    o    Understanding of database concepts such as dimensional modeling, ACID, ERDs etc.
    o    Big data technologies: Redshift, Bigquery, Presto, Athena, ElasticSearch, Message Queues etc.
    o    AWS (S3, ECS, RDS, and all core services)
    o    Good knowledge of modern programming languages such as Python, Java, Ruby etc.
  • Experience building enterprise software with complex business rules and data models.
  • Experience designing solutions around data quality, observability, and analytics.
  • Ability to influence and communicate effectively with team members and business partners.

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience
  • 5 or  more years of experience in software engineering

ADA Specifications:

  • This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) all of the time.
  • This position requires the ability to spend all of the time viewing computer monitors.

Travel Requirements:

  • If hired remote, this person is expected to travel to the Washington DC corporate office as needed (3-4 times per year minimum).
