Public Radio (CPB)

The category for NPR, American Public Media, Public Radio International, Public Radio Exchange, and certain other stations annually named by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (e.g., certain members of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, etc.). The rates and terms were published on February 28, 2020 (which can be found here), and were codified at 37 CFR 380 Subpart D as a part of the “Webcasting IV” proceeding, which can be found here.

For the period of 2021-2025, CPB submits five annual payments of $800,000 to SoundExchange (due December 31 of each prior year), as well as four quarterly Reports of Use, covering all stations within the terms of the above-referenced agreement. Streaming services which operate within this category do NOT submit payments or reporting of any kind to SoundExchange, and instead should contact their NPR Digital Services representative (and/or their CPB representative) for more information about compliance with these rates and terms.
